Summary of OsEAN's Live Meeting in Amsterdam
On 29th & 30th May 2024, OsEAN held its All Members Live Meeting in Amsterdam. The event brought together key representatives from member schools to discuss ongoing activities, strategic directions, and updates within the organization.
The meeting commenced with updates on the Virtual International Student Day (VISD). The 2024 VISD saw high participation, with 280 students attending live and 450 registered overall. The next VISD is scheduled for 7th February 2025, focusing on the "Osteopathic Identities in a Changing World: Identity."
A major focus was the promotion of the Open Forum (OF) 2024. Marco outlined a comprehensive communication strategy, engaging an agency to help attract more participants and aiming to exceed the previous attendance record. We received a high number of abstract submissions, but with only 17 presentation slots available, we ensured the selection of the highest quality presentations. The OF in Saronno is scheduled for 6th & 7th November 2024.
The OsEAN Teacher Training Program (TTT) validated by a UK university was promoted. The program, which includes three modules spread over four weekends in Amsterdam and Vienna, aims to prepare future osteopathic teachers with practical training. The program grants a PGCert worth 30 ECTS and is specifically designed to train osteopathic educators. The second phase of recognition has passed, and full recognition is expected by the end of July. At that time, the UK university validating the program will be announced. Notably, UK university-validated programs are recognized within the EU, unaffected by Brexit, ensuring the academic credibility of the certification.
Additionally, the student exchange program within OsEAN was highlighted. This initiative allows students to spend up to a week at a different school and country, promoting cultural exchange and broadening their educational experience.
Strategic discussions also took place, focusing on the future of OsEAN. The board plans a three-day "think tank" session in November to set clear goals for the organization. It is noteworthy that OsEAN's board members are unpaid for their time and effort and cover their own costs to ensure the organization functions effectively without financial burden.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmed commitment to advancing osteopathic education and fostering collaboration among member schools. The next live meeting is scheduled for 6th November 2024, in Saronno, where further progress will be discussed.
